WELCOME TO The Highlands

The inception of The Highlands dates back to 1907 when Charles D. Stimson, Albert S. Kerry, Edward I. Garrett, and A.B. Stewart sought land to establish an 18-hole golf course—which later became the Seattle Golf & Country Club. Utilizing the surplus 380 acres of heavily wooded land, they founded The Highlands, electing Charles Douglas Stimson as its inaugural president. The community attracted influential families from across the nation, including notable figures like William E. & Bertha Boeing, Donald E. & Fay Frederick, Morris A. & Georgie Arnold, Frederick R. & Estelle Delbridge Green, and Charles D. & Harriett Overton Stimson, fostering a cooperative and secluded environment amidst nature.

Designed by the Olmsted Brothers, The Highlands integrated homes harmoniously with the natural landscape, offering scenic views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. The community thrived for over three decades, marked by traditions and community contributions, though World War II brought challenges, met with resilience and support from its members. Post-war, The Highlands experienced significant growth and modernization, with ongoing traditions and a spirit of generosity prevailing into the 21st century. Generations of families have upheld traditions, welcoming newcomers and nurturing a community founded on tradition, independence, conviviality, and a connection to nature.
